The snow started falling last night and I went out around 9pm to check the new foals and they were all fine. The 3 day old black filly was huddled next to mom but not shivering or cold.
I woke up to a winter wonderland! The snow must have been falling all night. I got up at 5am and headed out to check the foals and hope I didn't have another newborn. The way my luck has been going this year it would not have surprised me.
All the foals were fine, a little damp but frisky and not cold. The snow was about 6 inches deep all over and the trees were heavy with the snow. The fog had rolled in, making everything across the fields misty and indistinct.
The mare preparing to foal (early I might add) was also fine and had not done given birth in the snow.
The 300 week old chicks were also doing well, some of them were a bit cold so I turned up the heater fan.
Life in Saskatchewan is never dull!
