Mare Steals Foal

Hi All,

Well on Thursday morning a black colt was born. He was stuck in a mudhole so I brought him to the barn and the mare who I thought was his mom followed. I put them in and had to rush off for a couple of hours. I got back and it didn't look like he had fed and that was when I discovered he was not with his mom!

I found his mom and now she didn't want him. I spent most of the day fighting with her and she finally took him back. She would stand for me milking her out but wouldn't let him nurse.

I thought all was going to be fine and was up most of the night helping him up and then when I came out in the morning I found she had stepped on him and injured his leg.
Another 24 hours of standing him up and also supplementing him but it was not to be and he died last night.

It is so hard when this happens :((
